Filming Day 2: James - The Preacher

Blog from Trey - James Blue

I enjoyed that we were all able to cooperate with each other during the shootings. Whenever we messed up during a scene, it didn’t deter us from getting the scenes done. It was a pleasant experience as my first acting job, and I felt as if I did well for myself and provided an uplifting spirit for the other cast with me.

The day of our shoot was filled with emotions such as excitement, anticipation, anxiety, and joy. The six of us encouraged each other and worked well together. Not being someone who's usually comfortable stepping out in front, I'm grateful for the experience. Tracey, the crew, and cast were all excellent. After the final cut, we celebrated the moment with dancing and laughter.

Shoot day for me was a mixture of exciting, unnerving, exhausting, and relief. Lord, what a long day! With all of the studying and memorizing parts, everything seemed new, words forgotten, or put in the wrong sentence. Thanks to a knowledgeable and patient shooting/camera crew, we made it through with lots of cutting and pasting. However, I believe we will have the funniest behind-the-scenes blogs.

I honor Director Tracey for following her dream and what was placed in her spirit. I don’t believe I could have worked with a better group than the James crew. We connected and supported each other with positive energy. We fellowshipped together during lunch break and made every attempt to come back strong. This was quite the experience!!!

Shooting day was an exciting and memorable experience. I love close-ups anyway, but it reminded me of when I dreamt of being a Hollywood music or movie star as a child. The filming crew was phenomenal. Just hearing, “Take 2 , action,” made it so real for me and I loved it!

What I will remember from shooting day was me being so excited for my scene, I wanted extra lip gloss on! Naee laughed hysterically and said, "No." 😊

From Louise - James Purple

My name is James (aka Lou), and I’m the brother of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and our shoot day was absolutely amazing!  The filming took place at our church (shout out to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Midlo), and it was an experience I’ll never forget.

Upon arrival, Chris and the filming crew began preparing the set as we, the cast of James, changed into our regal robes adorned with colorful cassocks.  After instructions from our phenomenal director, Tracey James, followed by continental breakfast, a delightful cup of hot coffee, and prayer – I heard … QUIET ON THE SET.  And that’s when I knew, my BFF’s dream had finally come to life.

We aced our opening introduction after a few times (but who’s counting), and when it was time for me {purple} to lead, I felt anxious, excited, nervous, and grateful all at the same time.  Let’s just say – those lights and cameras will make you forget a line or two, lol.  But seriously, our 10-hour production day was full of funny bloopers and a tab of frustration, but the 6 of us preached the book of James, and I’d do it all over again (with teleprompters, of course :)

Our finale ended with a sigh of relief and lots of smiles with our own dance performance to “This is the Gospel,” which was one of my many memorable moments.  It was a pleasure to be a part of this fabulous film, and I look forward to seeing each of you on the red carpet.

"It took one of me to make all of you.  Now it will take all of you to make one of me" - unknown

How appropriate for "James, the Preacher".

Six unique, independent individuals with their own personalities and styles.  We had to learn how to become interdependent upon each other in order to portray the one voice and the one sound of the Preacher - without losing or sacrificing personalities, independences, or identities.  We encouraged each other, supported each other, cried together, became frustrated, and celebrated.  Ultimately, we finished the journey - together.  James, the Preacher is a different and unique character from the other characters, because it took six of us to make one.

Thankfully and prayerfully, we made it.
